Facebook Rejects Ad for Lesbian Film 'And Then Came Lola'

Facebook has mysteriously rejected an advertisement for the Fast Girl Film's project And Then Came Lola, which stars Jill Bennett, Ashleigh Sumner, and Cathy DeBuono. The photo depicts the three lesbians in what coproducer Ellen Seidler calls the "sandwich shot," a sexy but by no means gratuitous shot of three women holding each other.

Of course, the social networking zeitgeist Facebook employs a slew of guidelines that ads must adhere to in order to be used, but apparently they only apply those guidelines part of the time. Those in charge of Facebook ads rejected the And Then Came Lola advertisement on the following basis:

"The image of this ad is either irrelevant or inappropriate. Per sections 3 and 8 of Facebook's Advertising Guidelines, the image on your ad should be relevant and appropriate to the item being advertised. Make sure your image is directly relevant to what you are advertising. Images that are overly explicit, provocative, or that reveal too much skin are not allowed. Images that may either degrade or idealize any health condition or body type are also not allowed. If you choose to submit this ad again, please use an appropriate image that adheres to all of Facebook's Advertising Guidelines."

Seidler told SheWired that she was using targeted Facebook ads only, which means the And Then Came Lola ads would only appear on pages of women interested in women and women over 18 years of age.

In the Ads FAQ section on Facebook, regarding image disapproval gives a link to the Advertising Guidelines, where they say:

"Facebook is committed to protecting our user experience by keeping the site clean, uncluttered, and free from intrusive advertising. We believe that we can help transform existing advertising on Facebook into tailored messages to our users, because they are based on how their friends interact and affiliate with the brands, music artists, and businesses they care about."

On the Facebook Page for the film, screen grabs of advertisements with straight people shirtless, making out, and in comparable positions to the And Then Came Lola ad are posted. Some ads Facebook has accepted include women's bare legs, one woman swapping spit with a man, and even blood, are all approved. A status update for the film's Page made a point with the question that "blood is ok, but smiles aren't?"

Now that DINAH's over...

Wow... it's been almost two weeks and I am still in recovery mode. But to be honest, that hasn't as much to do with Dinah as it does this horrific, god awful cold I have had ever since last sunday. In fact, it's beyond a cold, although I'm not sure what it is. Bronchitis? certainly, sinus infection? probably that too. All I know is Comet and Momma Kitty have been thrilled to have me still and in one place for all this time, sleeping and cuddling.

I have not abandoned The CDB, I am a one woman crew here though, so when I'm sick - this is what it looks like, a whole lotta nuthin'. But that's only for the time being. I am making plans for The CDB and I love that you all have formed the The CDB Crew. How fun is that?

I'll have more information for you soon. Just wanted to drop you a little note.

My DINAH Schedule

This is my Dinah Schedule.  These are the places I need to be and the things I hope to do and the times ISH that you can count on me catching some chunks of the action LIVE, (click "Channel CDB" above).

There will be times I'll go LIVE off schedule or when something outside of my control keeps me from going LIVE right on these times.  That's what makes this so fun... We are being such guerrilla vigilante Dinah crashers!!  I love it!!

Here's the best way around this, follow me on TWITTER, and be sure that your settings have you set up to receive updates on your cell phone.  Each time I am just about to go LIVE, I will Twitter it, it will update my Facebook as well, and you will be alerted on your cell phone!

5pm  Meeting with AND THEN CAME LOLA cast and producers at private location

7pm  Back stage at Suzanne Westenhoefer's Show. (Erin Foley also scheduled to perform.)

8pm SHOW TIME

FRIDAY 4/03

12pm Jill & I Check in at RIVIERA.

12:45 I arrive (at a private location) to shoot guest spot on an episode of the Afterellen web series CHERRY BOMB.

2pm  (straight from cherry bomb shoot to Fitting for Fashion Show (at CONVENTION CTR.) (potentially til 4pm)

Somewhere between 4pm - 6pm I will drop in on Doria Biddle of "The Frank DeCaro Show" in the lobby of the Riviera Hotel where she will be broadcasting LIVE on OUT-Q Sirius Satellite Radio with Romaine on the "Derek & Romaine Show".  THEN, I will cruise through the pool party just to see what's going on and bring y'all with me.

7pm I'll be taking my seat at the MARGARET CHO COMEDY SHOW, that will be hosted by my girl :)

7:30 SHOW TIME

9:30/10 Red carpet action for the WHITE PARTY, (LOGO celebs apparently a plenty.)

11pm Katy Perry Performs and the WHITE PARTY

11am - 12pm Dinah Idol! 

1pm to 2pm  Afterellen Battle of the Bands with all the Afterellen vloggers.

1:30 Jill and I will talk with Nat & Meg of the SWEET sponsored Afterellen vlog "The Adventures of Nat & Meg".

*NOTE: sometime between 12pm and 6pm Tracy Gilchrist of SheWired is interviewing the INDIGO GIRLS and I intend to crash this!...  with Tracy's permission of course...

3pm Jill and I appear at the HERE! booth at the pool party. 

4pm Fashion Show prep walk through.

7pm Doors open to INDIGO GIRLS Concert.

8:30 Jill & I go into hair/make up for fashion show.

9:30/10 Jill and & I walk red carpet for HOLLYWOOD HERE! PARTY (*we are hosting this party)

11pm Fashion Show.

12am Lady Ga Ga performs.
